Seeing and Sailing Santorini was the highlight of my trip to Greece! This island is composed of what remains after a volcanic eruption and is surrounded by The Cyclades which is a group of Greek Islands southeast of the mainland, situated in the Aegean sea. Although dormant, Santorini is still an active volcano. I had the opportunity to spend three wonderful days there but it definitely was not enough! Day one was very relaxing as I relaxed on the Kamari black sand beach soaking up the Santorini sun. I had dinner at the Kamari Beach Hotel and it was excellent! Nothing compares to Greek cuisine! There are many restaurants and shops in Kamari Beach making it the one size fit all hot spot destination for tourist. The shop owners were really nice and items were very reasonable. You could find varying items ranging from cute shoes to items for your home!
Day two was unforgettable and what I believe to be the best day of the entire trip! I ventured out on an excursion to the volcano. As we sailed across the beautiful island on a lavish sail boat filled with infectious laughter and rhythmic dancing as the calm and serene aqua and sea-foam blue-green waves gently rocked us back and forth, it was as if the sea was dancing too. After exploring the volcano at Nea Kameni, travel guests had the opportunity to take a dip in the volcano’s therapeutic hot spring waters. Dinner was served on the boat and as we drifted back into the majestic waters of Santorini, we beheld the most captivating sunset. While we indulged in a delectable dinner gliding on the sea, the sun washed us with an array of beautiful hues ranging from yellows and oranges to purples and pinks.
Day three greeted us with a tasty wine tour as we sipped into the sunset yet again and enjoyed samples of local snacks and perfectly aged fine cheeses which we were told are tourist favorites. Traveling in the small group really allowed for an intimate experience and it really felt like you connected with the group and made friends along the way.

Things To Know:
- Converter (Ordered from Amazon and was able to charge up to sevens items at once). It included 4 USB ports and 3 plug-in outlets. If you want to use a curling iron or hair straighter, you must purchase a converter that has the capacity for the high voltage.
- Comfortable Shoes! While taxis are available, one can find many locations within walking distance.
- Travel Pack from your Physician! (I usually request antibiotics, nausea or motion sickness, and allergy medicine.
- No Visa Required (Passport is all that you need from the United States).
- Altered Plumbing – The sewage system in Greece is very similar to other countries. The systems are not designed to handle the flushing of wipes/ toilet paper, but bins are provided for your disposable items.
- Greek currency is the Euro. The exchange rate at the time of travel was 1.00 Euro = 1.20 USD. Be sure to check rates daily as they change.
- Facebook and What’s App are accessible with Wi-Fi. Most hotels provide free Wi-Fi. I opted to purchase the $10 daily passport international plan through AT&T.
- Weather: Average temperatures in May were between 73 degrees Celsius to 81 degrees Celsius. Light jackets are recommended for evenings.
- Night life is not as prominent or lively in Santorini in comparison to Mykonos, but Fira and Kamari Beach are places to visit if interested. Santorini is more of a romantic island!
