Spending Memorial Day in Martha’s Vineyard was a very unique experience! I was able to expand my travel from Boston by using New England Trips! We had a wonderful motor coach and enjoyed Cape Cod, Plymouth and Martha’s Vineyard with an extended 3-hour Island tour provided by the tour company as well. Our wonderful tour guide Tim gave us history and commentary throughout the entire tour. From Boston to Falmouth is about an hour and 15-minute drive. Falmouth is the closest departure from Cape Cod to Martha’s Vineyard (Oaks Bluff). This ferry ride is 35 minutes in length and not too bad of a ride!
Martha’s Vineyard which is broken into “Up-Island” and “Down Island” has six towns West Tisbury, Vineyard Haven, Oak Bluffs, Edgartown, Chilmark and Aquinnah and each one has its own rich history and culture! The 3-hour guided tour took you to each island and the amazing tour guide explained the great details of this beautiful island. There is something for everyone in Martha’s Vineyard! If you enjoy nature, there are so many hidden gems to explore. I would recommend renting a bike to tour smaller island and bring your pets! It is definitely pet-friendly.
Hotel Recommendations: Harbor View Hotel, Vineyard Square and the Pequot Hotel if you are looking to stay near the beach. There are so many beautiful boutique hotels to choose from!
Food Recommendations: Nancy’s, Lobster Ville, Giordano’s Restaurant, Larsen’s Fish Market and Little House Cafe!
Recommended Activities: Visit the Gingerbread cottages, beaches, island tour, eat at Nancy’s, enjoy shopping and eating at the most unique cafes and go whale watching!
Bring cash! Some shops and cafes will accept cash only! Also, bring a light jacket if you are traveling in May as it can get cool on the island. Comfortable shoes are a must! May was a great time to go as the islands were not too busy, but there were still some shops that were not open, but I did enjoy not having to fight the large crowd.
Overall Recommendation: Massachusetts is a great place!! Carve out time to see all of New England as it will be one of the best experiences of your life!
